Police raid Tate Modern

Following calm and reasoned reports in the newspapers the police attended the pending Tate Modern exhibition Pop Life: Art In A Material World and forced the gallery to withdraw a picture of 10 year old Brooke Shields naked in case the images breached the Obscene Publications Act. The picture by New York artist Richard Prince shows Shields standing naked in a bath tub with a heavily made up face and oiled torso. A spokesman for the Tate said: "The exhibit is temporarily closed. We are in discussions with police."

Art! while im all for freedom of expression, one wonders, actually no scrap that one thinks art was used as an excuse to be an outright nonce!

i am all for art - massively - and freedom of expression but for the life of me i can't see what statement the artists is try to portray or the idea behind the piece that gives it merit... some one please explain it to me... why is a naked 10 year old oiled up, naked and wearing make up a piece of art?
