BBFC's Grotesque decision
Whilst the new the film 'Grotesque' may well from all accounts be "the
cruellest Japanese splatter movie ever" which 'laughs in the face of
'Saw' and 'Hostel' it is still a commercially made horror film, abet
one that should only be seen by those with strong stomachs, and
deserves to be released and to be seen by those who want to. The UK
state censors, the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) think
otherwise and yesterday (August 17th) announced that the film had been
refused a certificate which effectively bans it in the UK. It will be
interesting to see if the films UK distributors, 4Digital Asia decide
to follow in Redemptions footsteps and challenge the ban at the Video
Appeals Committee? If they do we wish them luck!
You can see the trailer here. Be warned though it really is rather unpleasant.
